The photographic art of Niña Samantela-Ruivivar
evokes tender emotion.
I have been privileged to view her creations
over the past two years through the International
Photographic Society in Washington DC, and
am unfailingly touched by her images. Pathos,
irony, bittersweet nostalgia, the reality
of suffering, and the stirrings of hope and
anthem. . . are expressed with the sensitivity
and clarity of a mellifluous violin.
Niña Samantela-Ruivivar is a master
of the medium. Her compositions are compelling,
contrast is crisp and clear, and her delicate
treatment of light adds ultimate finesse.
The photography of Niña Samantela-Ruivivar
is above all distinguished, in my opinion,
by her openness in sharing heartrending images
that must have affected her deeply in a personal
way, which helps to explain the beauty and
strength of her photography.
